At Living Life CR we do not offer treatment. We do not have classroom modules of 20 or more clients. We do not provide any form of “professionalism”. What we do provide is small groups of 4 maximum that are under mentorship of 2 well versed coaches with certified training.
As not to discredit the scope of the EXCELLENT work others provide in the recovery coaching industry we have spent years, decades actually applying our method of engagement. We have found A more direct path of success by incorporating our recovery experience with A live in program abroad. The purpose of this is what makes our work distinct in its own right. We are not an outward bound type of facility or an in house classroom setting.
The path we’ve chosen is one of interaction with A small community on the side of A mountain and A river at our front door. Any and all of the work in terms of meditation, written exercises, quiet time and dialogue is done in an open air setting. We will also spend time performing said task in one of the most pristine natural settings that is world renowned and known for its beauty, nature and fauna. We will take the time to absorb our surroundings whether they be in A rainforest, A world class surf break, while deep sea fishing, on mindful walks, waterfalls, the list and opportunities are unlimited.
Each day will begin with coffee or A refreshment. Then A daily meditation followed by quiet time and breakfast. We will plan our day according to the scheduled written assignments and the location/locations that would best serve the exercises to be completed. Once assessed we will take on that day. Each day will involve down time whether it’s at the home base, A desolate beach or pasture of open space. Whenever there’s some sort of excursion to town we will intermittently include the clients. We want them to engage the local community, to experience and interact with the cultural diversities.
We will also spend A fair amount of time doing basic forms community services. We will be offering hands on repairs for the community that hopefully some of the clients have skills with. Plumbing repairs, roof repairs, fix A gate, mend A fence, paint or whatever we can offer. The object is for one to feel some sense of self worth to another.
At the end of the day there will be A typical Costa Rican meal and from time to time we will even have more familiar meals. For those with kitchen skills we would welcome your efforts. Once we have cleared the meal there will be an interactive session with everyone present. A time to air grievances, reflect and share our thoughts of the day. We will then maybe take A trip to town for coffee, A pastry and posssibly A meeting.
The primary heartbeat of the staff and facility is to engage each client where they are at. Due to the decades of experience the staff has it’s been learned that the client must come to us in more ways than one. The process begins with them stepping away from their fears. We do not expect trust, we ask for participation. We do not expect openness, we ask for time. The staff at LigingLifeCR know all to well from personal experience and 40+ years of recovery engagement that getting clean is placing the client in an unfamiliar position. Often when there is to much pressure A client may feel vilified or worse, victimized. Our approach is to help the client feel whole again. To begin building some modicum of trust and belief in themselves. One lesson the staff believes in is the EVERY person has some good in them and we specialize in not only finding it, we will nurture it.
This has been A work in progress for over 25 years. It began with A person fresh from prison and new to recovery on the street. It became apparent once meetings came into play the depth of addiction and lack of availability for many kids suffering. Being unable to just watch the decision was made to step up and take action.
A construction company was formed, rather than hire an all skilled crew qualified carpenters were hired and the rest was kids with addictions. They were housed, employed and gently persuaded there was A better life.
It was realized quickly there was more effectiveness when the kids were housed along with their mentor. They had someone that was willing to engage full time and by that it’s meant FULL TIME. For as long as they were willing to participate up to 90 days (three months) they were cared for. There was not A single minute they were not in the presence of their mentor. From going to work, meetings, shopping, any type of function or event they were present and included. It was the belief that the best example was A living life example.
They watched A grown man as he worked, recovered, engaged all aspects of society and even went through hard times himself always remaining clean, committed and vigilant to the process. The experience provided was took place in so many ways. How to act in society. How to show up and work, being taught the basics of an actual skilled trade that could be expounded upon. Constant recovery interaction which was and is SO important. Perpetual conversation in A relaxed setting works so well. It allows for engagement. The art of sharing, having someone that did less talking and more listening. It is easier to help someone when you have “gathered” information.
